Sulphur Creek Bridge

This three span 1960’s concrete bridge in Whatcom County was replaced after two downstream culverts failed and Sulphur Creek began to headcut upstream. The grade change and ongoing down cutting of the creek bed caused a scour failure of the existing bridge foundation. A new 112 foot deck bulb tee girder bridge on drilled shaft foundations replaced the original 57 foot three span concrete bridge.

The new longer bridge was designed to accommodate the future stream bed elevation and the 40 degree skew. Extensive rock protection and wood structures will provide for fish habitat, streambed and stream bank stabilization.
